Stuff we like...

Just finished reading The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time, which is a mystery novel narrated by the main character, a 15 year old boy with asberger's syndrome (a form of autism). As well as being compelling in its plot, the creation of Christopher is a character both movingly sympathetic and shockingly detached (praise from Oliver Sacks points to a degree of authenticity in this). And it has lots of Maths in it too.

Also recommended is the Dixie Chicks CD Home - get the version with the free concert DVD for even more value. Prompted by the persecution of the Chicks after their anti-Bush comments, I tried the music and it's fun, interesting, different and satisfyingly complex for country/ blue grass based Texan - definately a step up from Shania Twain, but also a CD that Rhiannon and I keep stealing from each other.

Bookmarks and Bookplates

Lots of children's book illustrators have contributed designs for bookmarks and bookplates to My Home Library, so kids can print them and use them to personalise their book collections.
